Hi Gary,

Please let me know what you've tried already. I suggested some things earlier up, but you didn't let me know if it worked or not.

1. Did you try disabling the rich text edit in Control Panel > Preferences > Program Preferences.
2. Did you try changing the sending method? What sending method are you using?
3. What version of ListMessenger are you using exactly?

Best Regards,
Matt Simpson

Matt, thanks for the reply.
1. Rich text edit has been off since your initial recomendation. Sorry I forgot to metion that.
2. Using sending method PHP mail()[basic]
3. ListMessenger version 2.2.0

Also noticed something else that leads me away from a HTML issue. I copied and pasted a text document into the text version field of the Compose Mail. Here is the original message:

Quote

Hello Men,

Join us for the Men for Christ Prayer Breakfast. We look forward to
gathering together on the first Saturday of June.
We will hear from Jerry and Candis Bingham, full time missionaries to
Gula, Uganda, Africa this month. They have served in Papua New Guinea,
Mexico for 20 years and for many years now in Uganda for a total of 32
years full time.

They work with Action International and were the first to go to Uganda for
Action in 2000. They work with war torn, traumatized people, especially
children, as well as ministering to pastors in N. Uganda and S. Sudan with
grass roots leadership training. Another area is Children Workers Training
and training to meet the plight of AIDS/HIV victims. They serve with a staff
of 36 Ugandans. You wont want to miss this report.

Joe Rieger and some of his family will also be joining us. They will serve
with the Bingham when they arrive in Gula later this year, God willing.

God bless you all,
George Hodgdon
Chairman TCMFC

Then I selected "Proceed" and the plain text message looked great.
Next I selected "Proceed" and the resulting message looked like this even before I sent the message:

Quote

Same results if I press the "Save as Draft" button.

So what I see is the message is being redacted even before I send the message. It seems like it is happening before I send and also happening to plain text messages as well as HTML messages. In both methods (plain text and HTML) the message is being stripped at the same location in the message.

I tried to upload the HTML code of this message in Notepad so you can view the code but the file uploader won't accept my file. I even tried the advanced file uploader but could not get that to work at all.

Alternately, I am running Joomla 1.5.18 on my websites now and was wondering if converting to the Joomla version of ListMessenger might produce a different result. Is there a trial version of Joomla ListMessenger I can try? If so I would be willing to give it a try and if it works, possibly convert my ListMessenger over to the Joomla version.

Hope this helps. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Blessings,
Gary

Hello Gary,

I don't think switching to ListMessenger for Joomla would many any difference, but you're welcome to try. Unfortunately there are no trail versions as far as I am aware.

Have you by chance made an accidental changes to your ListMessenger database?

Can I suggest you try and install a free version in a different directory with a different table prefix and see if you have the same issue?

Best Regards,
Matt Simpson

OK Matt, here is what I found out...

Installed LM Lite.
Old Directory = Listmessenger New Directory = mailinglist
Old DB = listmessenger New DB = mail_list
Old table prefix = pcms_ New table prefix = lm_

Sent the following message in HTML format:

Selected 'Compose message'
Pasted in code below:

Quote

<p align="left"><strong><img height="175" width="183" src="http://www.pcmsummit.org/images/stories/MarkSpurlock.jpg" alt="MarkSpurlock" style="margin: 0px 4px 2px; float: left; border: #afada7 3px solid;" />Mark Spurlock </strong>on the pastoral staff at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tlc.org/">Twin Lakes Church</a>, is known for his quick wit and practical wisdom. Mark’s energy and enthusiasm&nbsp;mixed with a solid biblical message, makes him an enjoyable speaker with amazing spiritual depth.</p><p align="left">After graduating from Cal Poly, Mark served as Director of Camp Hammer for the next nine years. He has been serving as the Administrative Pastor at TLC since 1996 with a keen interest in ministry to men and, of course, surfing the waves of Northern California.<br /><br />“I was blessed beyond measure when I married my beautiful and wonderful bride Lora in 1996. God has blessed us with three children: Jack, Luke, and Anna. For fun I enjoy being with my family and doing home improvement projects, surfing at Pleasure Point, and splitting firewood with my father and brother.”</p>

Message looked great with no problems.
Selected 'Proceed'
The site showed a good HTML message.
Selected 'Proceed' to advance to the page to enter my email address. At this point even before I sent the message, here is what the message looked like. Still showed up formatted as HTML but the message was redacted.

Quote

<p align="left"><strong><img height="175" width="183" src="http://www.pcmsummit.org/images/stories/MarkSpurlock.jpg" alt="MarkSpurlock" style="margin: 0px 4px 2px; float: left; border: #afada7 3px solid;" />Mark Spurlock </strong>on the pastoral staff at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tlc.org/">Twin Lakes Church</a>, is known for his quick wit and practical wisdom. Mark

Seems the apostraphe in Mark's name is where it hung up. This was even BEFORE I sent out the message.

Then I remembered that the install sheet cautioned about some of the PHP functions being active. So below is a list of what I found from my phpinfo.php site survey. I also attached a copy of this printout for you to review. Please remove it as soon as you get it for obvious reasons.

Your install recomendations for LM Lite state the following must be active and on for best functionality.
file_exists - not present
fopen - off
fread - not present
fwrite - not present
ini_set - not present
ini_get - not present
fsockopen - not present
ob_start - not present
session_start - not present

Could this be the issue? If so, not sure how to resolve this.

Then I tried LM in the Joomla demo sending the same message as HTML. All I got was the HTML code on the page. Difficult to read due to all the code.

As promised, please find attached a txt file of my phpinfo page. Just download it and rename the extension to .mht extension to view properly. Also please remove the post once you download for obvious reasons.

Please le me know if I am overlooking something.

Blessings,

Gary

This may be the wrong posting for this - I've been stumbling over something for sometime now - but will post here and see if there is another unresolved issue in the forum.

First, long time happier user of all forms of Listmessenger, back to 0.9.xxx -- I think that was the version, and have had some hiccups over time, but for the most part this is pretty wonderful stuff. So feel the need to payback where and if I can.

Was having some problems with LM 2.2 - as mentioned had a number of installed domains with earlier versions and all OK but really like the new features and many clients have purchased/registered licensed versions of LM. So the immediate issue is related to CSS - and this may also resolve some of your problems. In the past I have had similar experiences where cutting and pasting from Dreamweaver or other html editor has seemed to transfer code that just completely discombobulated LM. One fix, sort of, was to not use IE or Safari, and another was to first paste the code into a plain text editor [notepad] prior to pasting into LM. Anyway, I digress. The current problem was related to preconfigured email templates, paste into LM - with or without either the TinyMCE editor, rich text editor or otherwise - just wasn't getting the expected results. Almost gave up and went to a commercial online mail tool [perish the thought!], but found the following to work - Sidecar Emogrifier - a free tool that strips out the CSS and converts it to inline code. In case the link page doesn't explain well enough - just take all the code inside your [style][/style] tags and place in one window, and all the rest of the page code in the
tags [using correct < brackets > of course] - in the second window - the resulting script when pasted into LM worked perfectly.

So hope that helped - and will check to make sure the other post I recall has this message.

Kurc,

Thanks for the work around. The problem is I still have the same problem with plain text email as well. I just took a word document and copied the text into the plain text editor and had the same results. So I tried copying the document and pasting it into notepad to strip out any altered code from the document prior to pasting it into LM. Same results.

I use this software basically once per month due to the inconvienience of how I have to jump through hoops just to get the message out. I end up sending my message to myself 2 or 3 times to make sure the WHOLE message is sent. I have always had to do this since the beginning. I am loosing confidence in the software and the support since I am getting nowhere fast (or should I say slow...)

I just don't know where to turn except for another program as LM is not working for me. Sorry, just frustrated....

Frustrated,

Gary

Hi Gary,

I don't know what to tell you to be honest... I can't think of anything that would be causing this. You've got magic_quotes_gpc disabled, and you're running ListMessenger 2.2... You've tried multiple browsers with and without the rich text editor enabled... *shrug*

I know you've already sent me an e-mail with some temporary FTP and ListMessenger login information in it (haven't you?). If you have, I can't find it, so please send it again.

Warning: I am away until Tuesday of next week, and if you don't hear from me by then, just send me a little reminder e-mail: msimpson at listmessenger dot com. Also, please reference this thread URL so I have some context.

Best Regards,
Matt Simpson
